Former Kaya striker Robert Mendy joins Ceres-Negros

After a stint with UiTM FC in Malaysia Premier League, Robert Lopez Mendy joins Philippines Football League defending champions Ceres-Negros FC.

The signing was completed on July 19, according to Ceres-Negros Head Coach Risto Vidakovic.

The 32-year-old Senegalese forward had been a lethal finisher for his former Filipino club Kaya FC Iloilo, but after a contrasting tenure in front of goal in Malaysia, he gets another opportunity to regain his old scoring ways for Ceres-Negros under Coach Risto.

His 43 goals in 43 appearances for Kaya speak volumes in the Philippine pro football setting as he helped the club win the inaugural Copa Paulino Alcantara and secure an AFC Cup qualification slot, something that his new team would be looking forward from him.

Before that glorious tenure with Kaya, Mendy was with Green Archers United where he made a name as an effective attacking player in what was then known as the United Football League.

As for Ceres-Negros, the club’s reinforcement does not end in their swoop for Mendy as they looked into their young talents this time, promoting two Ceres Youth players Charles Ivan Barberan of Bukidnon and Tristan Kit Robles of Iloilo City to the senior squad for the rest of the domestic campaign.

Ceres Negros will see action in the PFL 2019 season tomorrow, Sunday (July 21), against Green Archers United which will be held in The PFF National Training Center in Carmona. Match will be streamed live via

Iain Ramsay was officially unveiled by the Thai League 1 side as one of their preseason ASEAN signings last January 21, 2019 after the Filipino completed a successful campaign with then Malaysia Premier League club Felda United which he helped win the championship en-route to an automatic promotion to the Super League.

The move presents an opportunity for Ramsay to contribute to his new club in attaining a better 2019 campaign after finishing the previous season at 11th place out of the 18 teams that comprise League 1.

Ramsay’s most recent memorable performance for the Azkals was the assist he provided to Kevin Ingreso’s equalizer against Tajikistan during the AFC Asian Cup 2019 qualifier match last March 27, 2018 that led to the Philippines’ qualification to the continental tournament for the first time ever in its history.

Now back to the kit, the striking yellow color definitely stands out. Filipino football fans who happen to visit the Sukhothai province of Thailand and drop by the club’s shop could purchase it for 590 baht [around Php 1000.00].

We’re not sure though if kits already with or adding player namesets are available, but if ever they are, just keep in mind the probability of shelling out an additional minimal charge if you want Ramsay’s name and number at the back.

Azkals’ Iain Ramsay officially unveiled by Sukhothai FC

The Philippine Azkals’ winger Iain Ramsay has been formally announced by Sukhothai last January 21 as one of their latest additions ahead of the 2019 Thai League 1 season.

After suiting up for the Philippine squad in its AFC Asian Cup debut as one of the key substitutes under Sven-Goran Eriksson, Ramsay headed to Thailand for the announcement of his acquisition.

Before joining Sukhothai FC, Iain Ramsay played for Felda United in the Malaysian Premier League where he was able to help the Pahang-based club win the title and get automatic promotion to the top-flight, the Malaysian Super League.

Operating lately as an advanced left-winger with a primary role as a provider, Ramsay is likely to be expected initially to do the same for his new club by knocking in dangerous crosses for his team’s strikers to work on. But, it is also of note that the Filipino is a capable goalscorer if an opportunity arises.

Ramsay will play under manager Ljubomir Ristovski as the club aims for a much better showing in 2019 after concluding the previous season in the lower half of the standings at 11th place out of the 18-team league.

Thai League 1 commence its 2019 season on February 22.
